President Donald Trump on Friday said that he expects to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sometime next week, and that he will also speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin about ending the war in Ukraine.
The comment comes after Trump met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House earlier this week, to discuss the war in Gaza. Trump also met with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Friday.
The president did not specify what day the meeting with Zelensky would take place, or whether the conversation with Russia would take place next week, but said the meeting would likely occur in Washington, D.C., because he would not travel to Kyiv, per CNN.
“I will probably be meeting with President Zelensky next week, and I will probably be talking to President Putin. I’d like to see that war end,” Trump told reporters from the White House. “One of the things we’re looking at with President Zelensky is having the security of their assets. We’re also asking President Zelensky for the security of putting all this money up.”
